By: Sharon Drew Morgen

A friend recently returned from the recent Sales 2.0 conference and told me of a complaint she heard several times from attendees: “Customers don’t know how to buy.”

This, said by sellers blaming buyers for not behaving as sellers would prefer. Or not responding appropriately to seller’s selling patterns.

Let me reverse the issue: Sellers do not respond appropriately to buyer’s buying patterns! Indeed, have they helped their customers:

manage the range of internal decisions they need to make as they construct a buying decision? discern their criteria for resolving a need that resides within a tangle of other problems? identify the criteria for adding a solution to their status quo in a way that won’t create disruption? discover the most efficient route through the breadth of decisions and decision makers, to help them manage their newly-challenged organizational issues with stakeholders, budgets, and personnel issues?

THE SYSTEM BEHIND THE BUYING DECISION

I suspect buyer’s criteria for buying are different from what sellers would like them to be. It’s always been that way (which accounts for sales’ abysmal closing ratios) given sales is based on product placement and need, rather than systems management.

How do I know? Because after 15 years as a very successful sales person, I became a customer and realized what the problem was.

As an entrepreneur of a start-up tech company, my problem was never the ‘need’. The ‘need’ was just the observable factor (think tip of the iceberg) of a conglomeration of internal issues within my system of people, policies, relationships, and initiatives; it was never resolved so simply as finding a solution to one of the elements. There always seemed to be a trickle down factor.

Indeed: there are a few givens that sellers forget when it comes to customers ‘knowing’ how to buy:

buyers don’t want to buy anything. They want to resolve a problem. Period. They will resolve their problem with the most efficacious means, so long as it happens with a minimum level of internal disruption. If it means using a work-around that might fit better into the existent system of people and policies than bringing in a new solution or vendor, that’s the decision. If the status quo – incomplete and problematic as it might be – is better than having to shift initiatives, dislodge jobs, or uproot long standing and collegial vendors, then the status quo is the best resolution.

An outside observer, such as a seller, cannot understand the ramifications of a customer’s decision when there is so much more than just the Identified Problem at stake.

sales treats an Identified Problem as if it were an isolated event. It forgets that the Identified Problem was created over time, by a series of idiosyncratic decisions and adjoining elements that continue to hold the Identified Problem in place. Invariably, there are a series of problems – long standing personnel issues, problematic initiatives or relationships, new rules being developed but not completed – that circle the Identified Problem like a vine; one piece cannot be resolved without consequences to the rest.

Think Pick-up-Sticks. When you played that childhood game, remember how many sticks you had to pick up before you got to the primary one? And remember how difficult it was to avoid moving the sticks because they were all so intertwined? This is what a client’s environment looks like, and the problem you can resolve with your product is that primary stick hidden within the tangle of others that need to be disentangled before they can buy.

Remember that, when you think you have THE obvious solution to a buyer’s Identified Problem. The solution you have will only manage one single aspect of a buyer’s Problem Space, and the elements that caused it are so far afield of your solution that even gathering data about the buyer’s ‘problem’ will not elicit the necessary data to help you sell. This fact alone is responsible for the unnecessary doubling of the length of the sales cycle.

the job of sales has focused on uncovering need, creating a trusting relationship, and presenting an appropriate solution. It’s ultimately about product placement and need. But imagine if your job included helping buyers manage all of the non-problem-related internal issues they must manage BEFORE they were able to make a decision on the solution. Imagine if the first stage of sales was to teach customers how to manage their internal people/policy/personnel/political decisions, much like figuring out how to safely uncover the lead pick-up stick. They have to do it anyway – with you or without you. They might as well do it with you.

The time it takes buyers to come up with their own answers is the length of the sales cycle.

SALES DOESN’T SUPPORT SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT

Instead of blaming customers for not knowing how to make a buying decision, maybe you can blame the sales profession for not giving you the skills to truly support and manage all of the decision criteria that buyers must address before they choose you.

No matter the industry or the size of the sale, whether it’s on the phone or in person, buyers have to somehow resolve a problem by not upsetting the rest of their status quo, and by managing the adjacent problems simultaneously. And your solution is merely one aspect of the types of decisions necessary.

Buyers must figure out how to solve their entire tangle of issues that have created their imperfect status quo. Your solution may be one of the elements that will address their resolution. But they also may discover that buying your product – or any product – may not be their best solution.

Your choice is to sit back and wait for them to buy – or not – or call and call and call, and lower your price, and make-nice, or add another set of skills to your sales skills. You can use Buying Facilitation to help buyers recognize and manage all of the internal, idiosyncratic, systemic issues they need to address as they resolve their Identified Problems. It’s not sales – it’s a precursor to sales, but a skill you might want to consider in this new economic environment. Again, buyers have to do this anyway. They might as well do it with you. What else do you have to do now anyway?

Every sale is now a complex sale due to internal, endemic issues that we (as outsiders) can not understand. Enter the buy-seller relationship as a decision facilitator first. Then you can either accelerate the ultimate decision one way or another, or you can get on the decision team.

Customers know how to buy. They just aren’t making the decisions you want them to make in the way you want them to make them. And, by focusing on product sale and need, you’re not helping them.

I can tell you with certainty that successful companies selling to other businesses, do not send in shoddy representatives.

By: Mark Bishop

The salespeople that enter a business looking to extend or begin a b2b relationship are good-looking, articulate, well-trained, personable folks who are comfortable in business settings communicating with other professional business people. Yes, there are minor differences in personality types and corporate culture matches, but generally, professional salespeople can make the client comfortable with them on a personal level fairly quickly. The days of a corporate representative’s stereotype being overbearing, pushy or crass are largely over.

And that’s the rub with professional salespeople. For the most part, the individuals on any sales team can easily move to a competitive sales group and you’d never know the difference. In fact, I was involved in numerous committee style vendor review panels. In these panels, a representative group of our cooperatives’ decision-makers would hear presentations from up to six prospective vendor teams in a single day. At the end of the day our committee would have dinner together to ‘download’ our impressions of the days presenters.

It was common to have someone from the committee remark how similar the presentations were. In fact, one gentleman challenged the group, “If you recorded every presentation that day and bleeped out the company names, who here could tell the difference between the presentations?” Upon momentary contemplation of the question, there was a wave of laughter that swept over the room. After much discussion it was agreed that every presentation was remarkably similar. Same tone, same style, same general information with very similar ‘here’s why our customers choose to do business with us’ commentary.

The reality is that pre-sales interactions with virtually any reputable company are very similar. There is very little chance to separate yourself from your competitors with words alone.

So if most salespeople look the same before the sale is made (in the courtship phase if you will), how do buyers decide with whom to do business? Professional decision-makers use a formula to predict how well the salesperson will support them after the sale. That’s right, buyers focus on what happens AFTER the sale.

And that is the disconnect between most sales training and the sellers subsequent performance. The salesperson is taught to focus on one-to-one communication styles, presentations and pre-sale meetings. The buyer is judging them on how well they predict the salesperson will perform after the sale is made. Two completely different scales.

Why do buyer’s focus on the seller’s post-sales behaviors? That one’s easy. Because that is were the good salesperson pulls away from the pack. Pre-sales skills (selling features and making promises of post sale support) are easy to learn and express by most people. But having the power and influence to see their promises through are not so easy.

In fact, that’s the real lesson I learned as a professional with buying authority: every salesperson knows how to make promises. It is the exception that can prove they have the internal influence to see them through! Successfully position yourself as a person that can benefit the buyer after the sale is made, and you’ll set yourself apart from the competition and improve your sales results.

I’ll tell you how to accomplish setting yourself apart in future articles. If you want to learn more now go to ww.whatbuyerswant.net

That's right! Find out how you can use this golden nugget as a reference tool to master the art of affiliate marketing.

By: MK-ishak

Any of you happend to chance upon a successful affiliate marketer? It’s pretty much frustrating knowing that these marketers have what it takes to rake in the gold without much effort.

The future breed of ’scammers’ you say? Well, let’s find out.

Now, the great thing about affiliate marketing is that anyone can make huge profits, with very little work needed and a short time frame of about 2 weeks.

Meaning to say that you can start from scratch and make easy cash, without having to create your own products, website, or write a single advertising copy.

It’s a good starting point for those newcomers in internet marketing who just want to have an idea what it is like to be in a business. It gives them the chance to work at their own pace, using other people’s efforts and resources, to gain benefits while educating themselves in the process.

Affiliate marketing is an ‘earn-while-you-learn’ programme. It’s where most people get the knowledge to make it big on other forms of business in the future as well.

When starting an affiliate program, you don’t just dive in and choose the ones that are laid out in front of you. There are certain factors you need to understand so as to avoid time waste, resources and profits wastage.

1. Know your IDEAL target market.

To get the money rolling, you must first identify and target your audience. This is a simple case of sharing with people what is it exactly do they need. Not understanding the audience is suicide!

As a result? No buyer and no sales for you. Why would people buy something they are not in need of in the first place? Do you think people will be interested in you offering the know hows of gardening when they are into fishing? I strongly doubt so!

2. The affiliate products and services. How good are they?

The second mistake marketers make is when they market a product or service that ends up not delivering what it has promised.

It’s wise to understand the product first before sharing it with others. Not only will this increase your credibility, it will also built up your trust with them in the long run.

3. Foresee their sales-letter. Will it make or break your sales?

Study the affiliate owner’s website and sales copy before you direct traffic to them. Ask them regarding conversion rates or visitor values. It’s critical to understand the marketability of it all.

Visualize yourself in the prospect’s point of view. How will this product benefit me? Is it worth my money?

Unless you got that spare cash for advertising, it’s quite unnecessary if you’re running on a tight budget.

4. Promotional methods are your best friends!

Most affiliate programs supply their affiliates with tools to guide them in their sales.

Materials shouldn’t be a problem as you can focus more on the marketing. Having more tools can also provide leverage for your challenges.

5. Understand whether your promotion is profitable.

The final fact that you must consider is the amount you’ll be paid, in relation to your promotional efforts. A higher commission percentage can lead to a greater to place laser-liked focus on a particular product in your portfolio.

Do look out for products with a higher end pricing or those that will lead you to residual income. You profit is based on your efforts in promoting.

At the end of the day, it’s all about your actions. Only you can determine your own sales.

By: Naomi Lowe

You’ve probably heard of work-at-home opportunities somewhere on the internet or late night TV, but do any of them actually work? Are there any legitimate methods which can really bring home the bacon? Many claim to do so, but there seems to be some catch to it, or the amount of work necessary to make a buck involves way too much time and energy. This article will shed some light on this subject, and will open some doors for those who really want to make substantial income working from their home computer.

For the purposes of this article, we refer to substantial as any method that has the potential to produce an income between $5,000 to well over $10,000 per month. (And they do exist).

Let’s begin with affiliate marketing. What a concept! Having no product or service of your own, you virtually become a company’s “hired gun” so to speak. In this method you promote other people’s product for a percentage of the sale. In many cases, that percentage exceeds 50%. Yes, you read that right – you bring the seller a buyer, and he pays you over 50% from the proceeds of the sale. In some cases, that amount is over 75%.

If you are asking yourself why someone would pay you that much money, let’s look at it from the seller’s perspective. Firstly, assuming it’s an information product, it’s most likely in downloadable form. The cost to the seller for sending the information product to your buyer is next to zero. Secondly, if you did not deliver that buyer to the seller, he receives 50% of zero.

As far as the seller is concerned, any profit is good profit. Thirdly, the seller usually obtains the buyer’s email address, which will bring in future sales. The seller now has a very targeted email list, which turns into big overnight bucks for the seller. Some sellers actually give the affiliate 100% of the initial sale due to the value of the buyer’s email address. Sounds pretty good for everyone involved. So choosing to make money with this method, your income potential is unlimited.

If you’re wondering how to get started as an affiliate, there are very many websites to help you. One of the top resources for affiliates is known as Clickbank. They provide thousands of products for affiliates to sell and cash in. It is free to join, and you are allowed to begin selling products right away.

In case you’d like some personal coaching on your quest to become an internet millionaire, there are very few quality websites to recommend. You’ll want a club that will give you the necessary tools to get started with. The best ones usually have easy, step-by-step video tutorials on how to put together a profitable project. Good clubs also provide actual working blueprints that enables its members to produce income immediately. Not many online coaching clubs offer this much. However there is one that stands out above the others. It is a premium online coaching club known as Maverick Money Makers.

Out of several coaching clubs reviewed, Maverick Money Makers by far offers the most benefits to its members. It has a support staff that members rave about, and new features are added monthly. New members have reportedly made over $10,000 within their first month, and many online millionaires claim they owe much of their success to this website. The owner’s name is Mack Michaels, an online multi-millionaire who seems to genuinely care about each members success.

This particular coaching club is not designed for a lazy, get-rich-quick type of person. Maverick Money Makers is designed for people who want to create a business. Members adapt to this philosophy quickly when real checks begin to arrive in their mail. Those that work hard are rewarded the most.

Can someone make multiple millions per year doing this? It’s very plausible. Say a person puts together a little online marketing campaign that generates a modest amount of income. If done properly it continues to produce that amount on a regular basis. It’s then considered to be on “auto-pilot”, since nothing much needs to be done to sustain it.

Then you move onto your next project and do the same thing again. Income continues to grow on top of the previous project’s income, much like giving yourself a pay raise. It’s easy to see how someone could become quite wealthy if they work hard.

The best advice for beginners is to find a good mentor. Stay focused, be organized, and write down your goals daily. Treat it like a business and it will absolutely happen for you.

A designer label refers to the term that is applied to luxury items like fashionable clothing and other personal accessories. This label commonly consists of the names of the designers after whom the accessories are manufactured and sold in the market. These labels are named after the company’s founder of clothing and other luxury items. Other labels are not directly named after their company’s founder. They are also called designer labels. The entrepreneur uses the designer labels as a brand name for the accessories to be sold. The products carrying these labels target at the upper middle class. Some of the fashion designers target at the affluent or the wealthy customers.

An entrepreneur can create attractive designer labels with the use of various types of design elements. A person can make use of simple design elements for the label. Less use of designs makes the labels appear attractive and emphatic. It becomes easier for the viewer to grasp the name of the brand instantly. A marketer can make the background of the label plain. You can also give shinning appearance to the background by using good quality material. If the designer uses good quality material, it reflects on the quality of the product as well as the company. One can use plain white or cream color for the background of the label. The choice of the shade of the background depends on the font colors and other graphics used on the label. A person can deploy simple font sizes and font types on the label. Simple font types and font sizes make the name printed on the label comprehensible. It becomes easier for the customer or the prospective buyer to read and understand the brand name. It also becomes convenient for the customer to grasp the name and remember the company’s name for long. A designer can also use graphics or logo of the company. The logo represents the business identity of an organization. The graphics should also be attractive and mirror the identity of the company. The graphics can make the label visually appealing.

There are many tools available that can make the task of the designer easier and smoother. One can create thousands of personalized labels and promote the business of an organization.

By: Justin Anderson

The last 6 months have been a bit of a whirlwind. The real estate market has collapsed, MLS systems around the country have reached record highs, we have absolutely entered a Buyers Market…and the outlook is only getting worse. We are in an election year. Rumors of recession abound. What yet is left to come?

From my perspective…the BEST is yet to come! If we look at a chart of the market cycles, we are at the bottom of the cycle. You know what that means! Now is the time to buy! Now is the time that investors should be entering the market. Now is when investors should be taking action. Now is where the profits are waiting to be reaped! Now is what we call the Millionaire Maker Phase!

What fascinates me most is that in my travels to investment clubs around the country, attendance is at an all time low. In fact, if I look at my local group as a sampling, in August of 2006 we were at our peak attendance. That was also the time that the Real Estate Market was at its peak. More homes were being built, rehabbed, wholesaled, and ultimately sold than any time in the past 10 years. Yet this was also when Real Estate values and prices were at their peak, and it was more difficult than ever to find real deals. This is when investors should have been at their most conservative point. Yet this was when most folks were going crazy buying everything they could put under contract. (You will notice I did not call them “investors”)

In contrast, today is the ideal time for us to look at the most successful investor in any of our lifetimes as a model, Warren Buffet, now the richest man in the world. If we look at Mr. Buffet as an example, we as investors would know that Now is the Time to Buy! The bottom line is, when does Buffet buy?…When the market is at the bottom! In the marketplace today, when everything is at the bottom, most folks are selling! Your job as an investor is to take advantage of these fire sales and sniff out the most amazing deals of your life!

Gone are the days of lease options and subject to deals. The equity has been sapped out of most of those deals. It is time to refocus on the old school style of buy and hold investing. Think of yourself as the Warren Buffet of Real Estate Investing…what should you do? Buy low and sell high. Well, the market has created the perfect storm for buying low…can you perform on the rest of the equation and hold while property values rebound and appreciate so you can sell high? This is the time where millionaires are made in this business. The question is…will you be one of them?

By: Thomas Cutler

Pacific Scientific HTL, an internationally renowned maker of aerospace safety equipment and military defense hardware, adopted lean manufacturing several years ago in an effort to reduce inventory levels and increase the speed of product through their plants. A key component of their lean journey was to institute a kanban system that would govern the flow of materials from their suppliers and through their facility. While visual cues governed their internal production kanban system, fax releases signaled their suppliers.

After a year and a half of using the paper fax release system, it was clear that it simply didn’t scale for PS/HTL’s 100-plus suppliers, more than 100 fax numbers over 3500 parts on kanban, and 2000 signals sent each month. With numerous points of possible failure—did a fax get sent? Was it received? Was it legible? Was it acted on?—the system encouraged inefficient behavior all around.

Clearly PS/HTL needed a way out of the paper fax morass and into some kind of controlled, electronic kanban system. As PS/HTL’s Purchasing Manager Cari Gintz says, “What led us to decide to go electronic kanban, was sheer frustration and the need to start managing instead of reacting.”

A 20-minute webcast demonstration of Datacraft Solutions’ e-kanban product had alerted Gintz to a system that aligned perfectly with what PS/HTL needed: a system that was easy to learn and use for buyers, planners, and suppliers, and visible enough that everyone involved could do their jobs without constant confusion and supply worries cutting into productivity.

Datacraft Solutions and Gintz approached their work together as a project with measurable goals and a clear, phased implementation strategy. These were some of the specific goals PS/HTL targeted:

• Be assured of getting what’s ordered, and only what’s ordered, at the expected date • Handle the unpredictable—spikes in demand and other exceptions—predictably • Get a clear picture of the health of every cell and kanban at any time • Automatically calculate expected-on-dock delivery dates based on replenishment lead times • Rapidly bring suppliers on board and provide them visibility of the kanbans they support • Shorten replenishment times based on true schedules rather than one-size-fits-all guesswork • Evaluate and motivate supplier performance based on accurate tracking of delivery times and quantities

By: David Hill

In trying to locate programs or products that will earn us money online, we need to understand what visitors already want, or need, to buy. Researching a good choice of idea or product is always accompanied by interfacing the current market-demand for the product in the prevailing market climate and the amount of competition, or the current share of the market, the product will be having in the extended run.

“What product do I sell? What products are hot earners? These are the questions most buyers and sellers are trying to discover an answer in order for them to arrive at the the definite choice. And if we really need to know the reply to the question, our only choice is to do some research.

There are all kinds of twists along the road which may persuade you to believe you have a high-demand idea. We must be able to understand and satisfy the need, wants and expectations of our clients on a specific item they’re trying to buy. This three are called the basic needs or minimum requirements in a purchase. Needs are the central reasons or the minimum requirements consumers are looking for in a product or program. They are titled the qualifying or “gatekeeper” in a item purchase. Requirements are the determining dimensions among innumerable choices. Expectations, on the other hand, are values or intangibles connected with a product or service. Expectations are actually part of “wants” but they become extremely important at a time that products or services are not differentiated.

For example, in reading an educational publication, the majority of university students search for the following: Relevant concepts of logic, the use of basic, easy-to-understand language, easy to grasp and affordable prices. These similar ideas can be easily applied to Internet Sales as well. After all, the Internet is just one of many place to promote and sell merchandise . The basic concept of product demand is the very same there as it is anywhere else, and has been all the time.

Now, the second item that ought to be considered in finding “hot” goods to promote are the level of the competition or the market shares do your product will have. Market share or level of competition means the ratio of your brand sales versus the total number of market sales. Even though some companies would ,of course, define its object rivals, it is really the buyers who finally decide the competitive boundaries, or the list related products or services which consumers consider, as they exercise their purchasing power. We must consequently select the market segment where we can have a potential leadership or at least a strong challenger position. Because the main priority of access into this business is not just to please the desires and wants of our clients but to do so profitably more efficiently than his competition. Otherwise, our competition will end up serving the customers better than our own interest.

Third fact to be considered in finding hot selling products is searching out the general curiosity level about the program, or product, we wish to sell. General curiosity in a item helps us to gauge where our requirement and competition figures fall into the bigger picture. By thinking, if there isn’t much requirement for the product, and there isn’t much competition, it would seem that it might not be good a good put up for sale. But the research doesn’t stop here; there is one final object to be considered to precisely, if we can, find the hot selling products which you’ve been looking for. We must also learn how others are advertising those goods. If there are a good number of them doing so, it may mean that it’s a good opportunity to get into. Coming to the last phase of the process is analyzing and evaluating all the information that has been collected. We have to look at all of the data we have collected on demand, competition, and advertising, and come to a decision as how they all balance out.

And here are several factors or aspects that should be addressed: (a) not ample demand means not ample visitors are going to buy (b) too much competition means not sufficient of a profit to make it viable© too much promoting elevatesthe price of PPC [pay per click] ads, and rivalry as well (d) not enough common interest, connected with low demand, means there may not be a good market even if there is competition trying to make the sales.

If I were to put a specific word into Google to research a product I would get back a page of links that say, “read this first, scam”, “for an honest review click here”, or “scam, read before buying”. These are all great attempts to get the buyer to click their link before anyone else’s. So what happens when you click on these links?

Ninety nine percent of the time when you click on a site that says, “Scam, read first,” it is a raging endorsement for the product. As a consumer, we are always on the lookout for being ripped off. What better way to draw your attention then to use the word we are all afraid of. Scam. But what about those sites that say they want you to read an honest review of their product.

Review sites are tough to judge. Here is the reason. Most people who have these sites do not use the product at all. They base their reviews off of the product description and what they have read online. The claims being made could be read on a number of websites. In some cases, affiliates give there marketers a template to follow and most will just change the name on these templates so it looks like their own.

So what is wrong with someone using a template? Well, most people are lazy and will not change the information and input their own experiences. It’s impossible to get an honest opinion from someone that does not use the product.

So what makes a good honest opinion site? To me it must include an introduction of the person giving the review. You should be able to relate to the reviewer and in turn you will be more likely to trust their opinion. Also included in a good honest opinion site should be a good review of what the product does and what it can do for you. It should answer the questions, why should I buy this product, and how is this product going to improve my life?

One of the last things that should be included on an honest opinion web site is others are saying about the product. This is important because it gets you more than one point of view to make your decision without searching all over the internet. So next time you come across a web site that offers their honest opinion, ask yourself, does this sound like a script, is it too good to be true, if your answer is yes to both, then you might have found an affiliate marketer using a template.

I am a regular guy who joined the Marine Corps, graduated college and now I do internet marketing. I believe that honesty will bring you good karma. In the site http://hardly-working-for-money.com I give my honest opinion about Maverick Money Makers. Go take a look, no exaggerations, no wild claims, just the truth.
