Follow These Rules for Laptop Rebates

By: papatek123
Many manufacturers' offer rebates on their laptops and computers. A lot of people are skeptical of this type of discount and for good reason. They (the manufacturers) make you jump through a few hoops before you will get that all important rebate check. Here is a check list you can use to make sure you save the money you intended to.

1. Make sure before you buy that the rebate offer hasn't expired. Most stores don't remove product just because the rebate has lapsed.

2. Read the fine print. If you don't follow their rules to the letter you will not receive a check.

3. The sales and UPC receipts are the important stuff. Once you satisfy conditions #1 and #2 you have to prove that you actually bought the product. Most manufacturers will not accept returns if the UPC symbol is cut off the box. Make sure you it's what you want before you cut out the UPC and send it off for a rebate. Include all items asked for in rebate.

Make copies!

4. Depending on the amount of the rebate you might want to consider sending all of the rebates by certified mail. This is an added expense, but could be worth it if it's a large amount. Most rebates let you check status with an 800 number or a web site. Of course the manufacturers are not in any hurry to get you the check. Check on the offer form to see what the waiting period is. Generally 8-12 weeks is the time frame.

5. Be careful when you check your mail for the rebate check. Often the rebate check envelopes look like junk mail. This is intentional I'm sure. Junk mail usually winds up in the trash without being opene

d. Also most of the checks have a time frame that they can be cashed in. Make sure you deposit or cash it right away.

6. Again, most manufacturers and resellers will not accept product for return with the UPC cut out. Be sure that you intend to keep the product before filing for a rebate.

7. You should document all phases of the rebate by making copies.
